Building a home,
a skatepark and a future.

Since 2022, Kalangaro has been growing into a place where skateboarding, education, community and a home for children can exist together.

The story

More than
concrete.

At first glance, Kalangaro Skatepark may look like a project about concrete, ramps and skateboarding. The plan includes a bowl and a miniramp — a dedicated place where young people can skate, practice and develop their skills.

But Kalangaro is much more than a skatepark. Behind the construction is a bigger vision: to create a place where skateboarding and community support can exist together, while providing a home and essential facilities for homeless children.

Construction began in 2022 and has continued step by step. Several buildings have already been constructed to accommodate children, and a library is part of the growing project.

01 / Where it begins

A vision takes shape.

Every construction project starts with a vision. For Kalangaro, that vision was developed into a design by Kizza David, who designed the skatepark and helped translate the idea into a physical plan.

The project began construction in 2022 with the aim of creating a dedicated skateboarding facility in Seta. The skatepark centres around two major elements: a bowl and a miniramp.

These features are designed to give skateboarders a place to practice, learn and progress. But the vision behind Kalangaro did not stop at skateboarding. The project was conceived as a wider community space — one that could provide support and a sense of belonging to children who need a place to call home.

Construction begins in 2022.

Starting a project of this kind requires more than a design. The site has to be prepared, materials sourced, construction organized, and every stage supported with resources.

A skatepark demands particular attention to shape and construction quality. Unlike a conventional flat concrete surface, skateparks depend on curves, transitions, banks and carefully formed features.

The bowl must be shaped correctly so skaters can move through it. The miniramp needs smooth transitions. Surfaces must be suitable for repeated use, and different features need to function as part of the same environment.

The concrete being built is not simply infrastructure for a sport. It is part of a larger environment intended to bring people together.
02 / Designing movement

A space to learn.
A space to progress.

The bowl and miniramp can serve beginners discovering transitions and experienced skaters refining advanced tricks.

03 / More than a skatepark

A place
to belong.

The most important part of the Kalangaro story is that skateboarding is only one part of the project.

Kalangaro is also intended to provide a home for homeless children. The skatepark is being developed alongside a wider community environment where children can have somewhere to stay and access facilities designed to support their daily lives.

Several buildings have already been constructed to accommodate children. There is also a library, creating the possibility of a space dedicated to reading, learning and education.

04 / A home and a library

Room to live.
Room to learn.

For a child without a stable home, having a safe place to stay can make an enormous difference. A home provides more than a roof. It provides stability — a place to rest, develop relationships, study and begin to imagine a future.

The buildings constructed at Kalangaro are part of that effort. Their presence means that the project is developing into something larger than a sports facility.

The library complements the skatepark in another way. While skating develops physical skills and creativity through movement, reading opens doors to knowledge, ideas, cultures and possibilities.

05 / The challenge

The unfinished
story.

Kalangaro is still under construction. The main challenge has been a shortage of funds.

Large construction projects require continuous access to materials, labour, equipment and other resources. When funding is limited, construction can slow down or stop while additional resources are sought.

For Kalangaro, this has meant that the project has taken longer than originally hoped. The unfinished areas are not the end of the vision; they reflect the reality of developing a large community project with limited resources.
